Handpainted dance board from Warlukurlangu Artists

Dance boards are concave boards, handpainted by women prior to ceremony. The dance boards are held in the hand during ceremonies relating to women's Dreaming. Dreamings are passed on through art, oral story-telling and ceremonies.

The Australian Museum is proud to represent art, object, jewellery and accessories from the Warlukurlangu Artists.

This organisation is one of the longest running and most successful Aboriginal-owned arts collectives in Central Australia. Warlukurlangu means 'belonging to fire' in the local language, Warlpiri, and is named after a fire dreaming site west of Yuendumu.

Size: 50cm length, 9.5 cm wide.

Material: hand shaped timber handpainted with acrylic paint
