Satin silk scarf, hand dyed at a community arts facility on an island in the Groote Eylandt Archipelago.
The Anindilyakwa Arts collective commission people across this remote part of the Northern Territory to dye garments and accessories using traditional bush-dying techniques.
Each design is unique and the natural plant extracts used create distinct individual markings.
The dying process begins with pattern making by laying leaves on the delicate material, stringing the garment with metal, then boiling in dye. It is then rinsed, dried and set.
