Curious about Nautiloids?
Nautiloids, a type of marine cephalopods belonging to the Mollusca group, first appeared during the Late Cambrian period. Today, we can observe their living counterparts in the form of Nautilus and Allonautilus.
Fossilized nautiloids exhibit remarkable diversity, comprising a vast array of species totaling more than 2,500. These ancient creatures thrived during the early Paleozoic era, where they dominated as the primary predators. Throughout their evolutionary history, nautiloids developed an exceptional range of shell shapes, including coiled variations and immense straight-shelled forms. However, only a small number of coiled species known as nautiluses have managed to survive into the present day.
