Shattuckite - Mineral Specimen

$150.00

A polished blue shattuckite with striations of deeper blue and specks of chrysocolla

Rare and sometimes mistaken for turquoise, Shattuckite is named after its discovery locality at the Shattuck mine in Bisbee, Arizona in the United States. Since that discovery, it has been located in a few locations in North America, South America, Africa and Europe.

This specimen is from Namibia. Shattuckite contains silicate chains similar to pyroxene in a complex association with copper atoms, while the closely related planchéite contains silicate chains similar to amphibole.
