Pyrite is a metallic, pale brassy-yellow mineral which, due to its coloration has lead many people to mistake it for gold, hence it has acquired the common nickname 'Fool's Gold'. Despite the name suggesting inferiority, pyrite is an incredibly versatile and important mineral. It's remarkable physical and chemical properties mean it is playing a key role in areas of scientific and technology development, such as energy conversion and nanotechnology.
