The College Street facade of the beautiful Australian Museum building illustrated by local artist, Rose Colbeck,

The Australian Museum, inaugurated as the first public museum in Australia, is one of the country's oldest scientific and cultural institutions. Initially designed as an encyclopaedic repository of cultural and natural history, the Museum has evolved to expand knowledge of Australia's natural history and the Pacific region. The institution, which began occupying its first permanent home in 1846 and opened to the public in 1857, now includes an extensive complex of buildings reflecting its growth and the changing attitudes of the Australian Government and society towards science and research.

The Museum commands the eastern reaches of Hyde Park, extending the principal civic and religious precincts along Macquarie and College Streets.

The perfect souvenir of your visit to the Australian Museum and a charming gift to post to friends abroad or interstate
