The Indigenous Art Code is a set of principles and standards for the ethical conduct of the art trade in relation to Indigenous art. The Australian Museum is dedicated to upholding these principles and only works with suppliers who are signatories to the Indigenous Art Code. We have taken several steps to promote sustainability:
We are committed to ethical and sustainable sourcing and collaborate with suppliers to scrutinize supply chains and product provenance. We champion ethical buying of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander art and products, acquiring all works directly from makers or owned art centres throughout Australia, and we work exclusively with suppliers who are signatories to the Indigenous Art Code.
We recognize that there is more work to be done, and we are continually seeking and implementing better solutions for the planet and our customers. Sustainability is an ongoing commitment, and we are dedicated to making further improvements in reducing our environmental impact.
