Sweet metal cut-out bilbies, hand painted and ready to scurry away come the morning.
These beautiful pieces are from the Warlukurlangu Artists Cooperative, one of the oldest and most successful Aboriginal-owned art centres in Central Australia.
With a significant national and international profile, Warlukurlangu artists have been featured in hundreds of exhibitions and publications in Australia and around the world.
Warlukurlangu means ‘belonging to fire’ in the local language, Warlpiri, and is named after a fire dreaming site west of Yuendumu.
Warlukurlangu artists of Yuendumu have been producing exceptional Aboriginal art, promoting Indigenous culture and supporting the remote community of Yuendumu
since 1985.
At 162mm tall, these charming works of art have the long, pointy nose and ears, expressive tails of these elusive, endangered marsupials.
