Internal Agate inside a Weathered Thunder egg
A fascinating, organic-shaped agate specimen, formed inside a thunder egg which has subsequently been weathered away by exposure or water.
Thunder eggs are generally lithophysae, largely filled with chalcedony, usually as agate, and often with a quartz-lined geode. As the silica-filled cavities are harder than the surrounding rock they are often weathered out.
In this specimen, the agate has formed within the thunderegg, in an interesting spine-shaped geometric form. Its colours range through warm rust and cream through to grey, blue and translucent whites
