Fossilised knightia sp. fish, from the Eocene era, 50 million years old.
Knightia is an extinct genus of clupeid bony fish that lived in the freshwater lakes and rivers of North America during the Eocene epoch.
This specimen was found in Wyoming USA, and is heavily detailed and delicately expressed. The spine rows of dorsal and ventral scutes running from the back of the head to the medial fins are prominent.
Knightia is the official state fossil of Wyoming. A small schooling fish, worldwide, it is the most commonly excavated fossil fish
