Opalised Ammolite fossil

$1,119.99

An 85-million-year-old opalised ammolite fossil, unearthed in Saskatchewan, Canada.

This specimen originated in the Late Cretaceous period within the Mesozoic Era, which was  characterized by the dominance of dinosaurs and the emergence of flowering plants. Saskatchewan's rich geological makeup, including its sedimentary layers and ancient marine deposits, makes it an ideal location for uncovering ammolite fossils.

Ammolite, formed from the fossilized shells of extinct ammonite molluscs, can exhibit  remarkable opalescence due to the interference of light within its layers of aragonite crystals. This results in the vibrant iridescent hues seen in this specimen.
