Fossilised tooth of the Isurus hastalis. Also known as the Broad-Tooth White shark, this extinct species thrived from the Miocene to Pleistocene epochs, with teeth reaching lengths of up to 7.5 cm.
Widely discovered in marine deposits across the globe, particularly in Miocene and Pliocene formations, this ancient predator is believed to be an ancestor to the great white shark. Its status as a top predator is evidenced by bite-marked fossils of marine mammals like dolphins and desmostylians.
