Coolamon is an anglicized version of the Wiradjuri word "guliman," and it refers to a multi-purpose shallow dish used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women for carrying water, fruit, nuts, and even cradling babies.
With its curved sides and canoe-like shape, the coolamon can range in length from 30 to 70 cm.
