Pyrite Cube

$600.00

A lovely example of an elegantly formed, perfectly cubic Pyrite Cube specimen

Pyrite is a metallic, pale brassy-yellow mineral which, due to its coloration has led many people to mistake it for gold. Its common name is 'Fool's Gold'. The derivation of its name "pyrite" comes from the Greek "pyr" meaning "fire." Pyrite can be used to create the sparks needed for starting a fire if it is struck against metal or another hard material. Pieces of pyrite have also been used as a spark-producing material in flintlock firearms.

Pyrite is a versatile and important mineral. Its remarkable physical and chemical properties mean it is playing a key role in areas of scientific and technology development, such as energy conversion and nanotechnology.

This specimen originates from Peru.
