Curious about the Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus)?
This vibrant and colourful lorikeet is common along the rainforest, coastal bush and woodlands of Australia's eastern seaboard, from Queensland to South Australia.
There is little, visually, to distinguish between the sexes. The plumage of the head is deep blue with a greenish-yellow collar across the nape.Their wings, back and tail are green. They have an orange/yellow chest, a deep blue belly, with green thighs and rump. In flight, their yellow wing bar and red underwing plumage is visible.
Rainbow lorikeets feed mainly on fruit, pollen and nectar, and the end of their tongue has a small appendage adapted to gathering pollen and nectar from flowers.
