Black Crow and Button Shell - Bracelet
This handmade black crow and button shell bracelet is crafted by palawi woman Jeanette James, a First Nations artist known for her intricate work with natural materials. The bracelet features Black Crow and button shells, carefully selected and woven together to create a striking contrast in texture and tone.
A unique example of Aboriginal jewellery, this piece reflects the deep cultural knowledge and traditions of the Palawa people of Lutruwita (Tasmania). Jeanette James’ work is rooted in ancestral practices, celebrating the connection between land, sea, and identity. Each bracelet is a one-of-a-kind piece of First Nations jewellery, handmade with skill and care.
Shell jewellery-making is the oldest continuing cultural practice in Tasmania – a significant tradition for Aboriginal women still handed down through each generation.
