Curious about the Superb Fairy Wren (Malurus cyaneus)?
Common across almost any area of south eastern Australia with a little dense undergrowth for shelter, it has adapted well to the urban environment and is common in suburban Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane.
The distinctive iridescent blue of the breeding male is what gives this bird its name. The striking bright blue forehead, ear feathers, mantle, and tail, stand out from its black mask and black or dark blue throat. Non-breeding males, females and juveniles are predominantly grey-brown in colour
The superb fairywren eats mostly insects and supplements its diet with seeds.
