Carnotaurus | Dinosaurs of Patagonia

$44.99

Meet the horned hunter of ancient Patagonia. This Carnotaurus figure is a hand-painted model of one of the most distinctive meat-eating dinosaurs ever found. It measures around 26 cm long and 9.5 cm tall.

Carnotaurus lived around 70 million years ago, late in the Cretaceous period, in what is now Patagonia, Argentina. Its name means "meat-eating bull", after the two short horns that sat above its eyes. It had a deep skull, an upturned jaw and very small arms, shorter for its body size than those of Tyrannosaurus Rex. It grew to about 5 to 8 metres long. Its skeleton was found in Chubut Province in 1984 and named by palaeontologist José Bonaparte in 1985. Fossil skin impressions show its body was covered in rows of bumps, so scientists know more about how Carnotaurus looked than they do for most dinosaurs.

Patagonia is one of the world's richest dinosaur fossil regions, and its discoveries are the focus of The World's Biggest Dinosaur: Dinosaurs of Patagonia at the Australian Museum. Carnotaurus is a natural companion to the exhibition's giants. It shows that the ancient landscapes of Patagonia were home to formidable hunters as well as long-necked titans.

Pair it with a sauropod such as Patagotitan to stage scenes from Cretaceous Patagonia. and start conversations about how scientists work out what dinosaurs ate and how they looked. It is recommended for ages 3 and up.

Great for collectors and adult dinosaur fans, this Carnotaurus figure is a great addition to a shelf, desk or collection cabinet.

Dimensions: 26x9.5cm, 250g
