Ammonite With Opalescent Shell -Approx 180 million years old- from Madagascar
This exquisite ammonite with opalescent sheen was excavated from the Mahajanga region of Madagascar.
Approximately 180 million years old (Mesozoic), it's a specimen of exceptional size, quality and completeness, with darting irridescent red flashes. The nacre within the shell of this creature has fossilized over millions of years, transforming into a calcium carbonate known as aragonite, causing this refraction of colour.
At 170x145 mm in size, with a depth of 40 mm, this is a breathtaking, rare, intact specimen that would complement any collection.
Size: 170x145x40mm
