Palawa Shell Bracelet | Black Crow and Kelp

An authentic Palawa shell bracelet, hand-gathered and hand-strung by Palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal) artist Aunty Jeanette James, using shells collected locally along Tasmania's coast. Shell stringing is one of the oldest continuing cultural practices in Australia, a craft passed down matrilineally through generations of Tasmanian Aboriginal women. Owning one connects you to that unbroken tradition and to the artist who made it.

The design pairs lustrous, pearlescent cream kelp shells with matt black crow shells, whose interiors reveal a quiet flash of white. The contrast between the shimmering and the matt gives the piece its character, and because every shell is gathered and strung by hand, no two bracelets are the same.

At 23cm long and just 23g, the bracelet sits lightly on the wrist and is finished with a secure sterling silver clasp. It is elegant enough for significant occasions and understated enough to wear every day.
