Boulder Opal From Quilpie Qld

$649.99

An exquisite Boulder Opal specimen from Quilpie, Queensland

Boulder opals, only found in the Quilpie and Winton opal fields of Queensland, are recognizable from the solid layer of brown ironstone that remains on the underside of the stone. They are extracted from substantial ironstone boulders underground, where luminous, irridescent opal forms within narrow veins and crevices.

Due to the delicate nature of these opal veins, the ironstone backing is maintaing, to keep the integrity of the stone. Though thin, they display a stunning array of colours.

Specimen size: 140x70x50mm
