Emu Egg - Quandong Carved
Carved emu egg with Quandong leaves detail
Hollowed and carved emu egg, handcrafted by David Doyle.
The shades and colours that are revealed in the carving process are natural layers of the emu egg.
The egg is mounted on a hardwood plate, crafted from locally sourced, found timber.
Of his art, David writes: ‘Local to Menindee and descended from the Barkindji, I’ve always loved the bush and river and this is where I find inspiration. I like to make things from items I fund out bush - mostly wood but I also use scrap metals, sheet copper, freshwater mussel shells, turtle shells and have incorporated some recycled glass into my sculpture on occasion.'
