Hand-Painted Large Coolamon | Warlukurlangu Artists
Large coolamons, hand hewn and hand-painted by artists of the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, one of the longest-running Aboriginal-owned art centres in Central Australia.
Each piece is unique. With tool marks and the artist's colours and designs, every coolamon an individual work of art, so the one you receive will be the only one of its kind.
The coolamon is a traditional vessel Aboriginal people have long used for carrying. These exceptional pieces are sculptural artwork that can be displayed on a sideboard, shelf or wall. They are a perfect gift for collectors and art lovers who want a large, colourful First Nations work with presence in a room, and for anyone looking for an original artwork in a form other than a painting on canvas.
Warlukurlangu means "belonging to fire" in Warlpiri, the local language, and is named after a fire Dreaming site west of Yuendumu. Founded in Yuendumu in 1985, the art centre is 100% Aboriginal-owned and works with Warlpiri artists from Yuendumu and Nyirrpi. Its artists' work is held in collections across Australia and around the world. For the art centre's leaders, keeping culture strong has been the driving purpose from the start.
Every coolamon is carefully and securely packed by our team so it reaches you safely.
