Bilum & Bilas - Blue/Green Leather Strap

$249.99
Minus Plus

A fresh twist on the traditional bilum. This piece has been custom made with a leather strap for added comfort and elegance, whilst retaining the traditional bilum body.

This authentic bilum originates from the Morobe Province of Papua New Guinea. The string used to hand weave this beautiful piece is meticulously handcrafted from natural fibres produced using ancient processing techniques. The colours in the patterns are made from ‘ples dye’, traditional dyes made from local ingredients.

By Bilum & Bilas - a Papua New Guinean social enterprise which supports female artisans to develop a wider market for their crafts and improve their livelihoods. A bilum is an iconic Papua New Guinean string bag which holds deep cultural and emotional significance. Bilas is decoration and adornment used throughout PNG to celebrate diversity and express ones culture.
