Western Australian Mookaite Specimen | Museum Quality banded sample
This polished mookaite jasper specimen from Western Australia is a museum quality mineral valued for its vivid colour variation and natural banding. Found exclusively in the Windalia Radiolarite region, mookaite is a silicified porcellanite (microcrystalline quartz/jasper) highly sought after by collectors of Australian mineral specimens.
Formed from ancient marine sediments, many specimens are fossiliferous, containing microscopic Cretaceous fossils such as Radiolaria and Foraminifera (145–66 million years ago). The polished surface reveals swirling patterns in colours ranging from reds and yellows to browns, beige, grey, and occasional purple tones.
With a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7, this durable quartz-based mineral is ideal for display and collection. Each specimen is naturally unique in colour, pattern, and formation, making it a distinctive addition to any natural history collection.
