Deadly Science - Animal Survival
Discover the remarkable adaptations of Australian animals to their environment. From warm coats to camouflage, this book explores indigenous observations and protection of native species over millennia.
The Deadly Science series presents a mix of western and first nations Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics [STEM] knowledge in informative, excitingly illustrated science texts
Animal Survival (Book 6 in the series), steps primary-aged learners through evolution of survival strategies so animals can adapt to their changing environments:
- Survival over time
- Weather, desert and deep ocean survivors
- City survivors
- Extinction survivors
It also follows the students of the Badu Campus as they build dioramas that explore seasonal survival in the Torres Strait
The Deadly Science series aims to inspire the next generation of Deadly Scientists one book at a time.
Understanding that regional and remote schools were critically underfunded, particularly in STEM resources, proud Kamilaroi educator, Corey Tutt, worked 2 jobs to purchase and send resources to some of these schools. In 2018 Corey founded DeadlyScience, a not-for-profit organisation to provide STEM resources and learning experiences to regional and remote schools in Australia and connect young Indigenous people with STEM professionals.
Since then DeadlyScience has grown to be Australia’s leading Indigenous STEM charity working with over 800 schools and community organisations across all states and territories.
