Gould illustration Silk Scarf
The Birds of Australia Silk Scarf
100% Silk | 490 x 1400 mm
The timeless beauty of Australia’s birdlife is elegantly displayed on this beautiful, long silk scarf.
Created exclusively for the Australian Museum’s exhibition The Birds of Australia: John and Elizabeth Gould, it features a striking panorama of Gould birdlife.
The delicacy of the silk crepe de chine brings to life the vibrancy and detail of Elizabeth and John Gould's signature illustrations, and some of Australia’s most iconic bird species.
Elizabeth Gould’s masterful hand-coloured lithographs and John Gould’s scientific vision combined to produce one of the most significant ornithological publications of the 19th century. Their work, The Birds of Australia, captured the wonder of the continent’s avian diversity at a time when many species were being documented for the first time by European naturalists.
Printed on 100% silk, this lightweight scarf is perfect as a wearable artwork or keepsake, honouring the legacy of the Goulds’ extraordinary collaboration with First Nations knowledge holders and the rich natural history of Australia.
