Plasma Ball - Thames & Kosmos

$74.99

Touch and sound reactive Plasma Ball

A futuristic and mesmerizing addition to your home decor, the plasma ball creates a dazzling display of electricity, responding to both sound and touch. It looks great on a table top or mounted as a wall sconce, especially when it's dancing to your favourite tunes.

The plasma ball works by using a mixture of gases, typically neon or argon, inside a sealed glass sphere filled with a low-pressure gas. The sphere contains a central electrode, which is surrounded by a series of smaller conductors. When high-frequency alternating current is applied to the central electrode, it creates an electric field that ionizes the gas and causes the release of electrons. As they collide, they release light in the form of plasma.

The result is a captivating display of glowing, dancing tendrils of plasma that move in response to your touch and the sound in the environment.

Powered via a USB-C cable or 4 AAA batteries (not included), it's a mesmerising visual display that also offers a safe, tactile and visual opportunity to learn about electricity, matter, and energy.

Size: 12.5cm glass sphere

Weight: 550g
