Curious about the Thorny Devil, Moloch horridus
The Thorny Devil, or Moloch horridus, is a unique and fascinating species of lizard found in the arid regions of Australia.
They are well adapted to their harsh environment with their spiny bodies and unique features like their false head, the curious knob on the thorny devil's neck .
Meant to deceive predators, when a devil feels threatened it will curl its real head between its front legs, leaving the false one exposed to attack.
They primarily feed on ants, using their long, sticky tongue to capture them. These reptiles are solitary and territorial, and are known to be able to drink through their skin. Their ability to blend into their environment helps them avoid predators like birds of prey.
