Tiger Iron | Rare Banded Australian Polished Specimen
Tiger iron is a banded ornamental stone from Western Australia, formed where three materials meet: golden tiger eye, deep red jasper and metallic silver-grey hematite.
Its bold stripes trace ancient, banded iron formations of the oldest rock records on Earth.
This polished slice shows the layers polished to a mirror finish. The tiger eye catches the light with a shimmering luminescence while the jasper and hematite hold their rich colour and metallic sheen. Each tiger iron specimen is unique, its banding unlike any other.
Tiger iron is a fascinating addition to any minerals collection. Distinctly Australian and geologically remarkable, it is a striking example of how different minerals combine into a single stone. This piece is the perfect gift for mineral collectors, admirers of our minerals gallery and anyone seeking an authentic, out-of-the-ordinary décor piece or gift.
As with all of our minerals and fossils specimens, this tiger iron is ethically and sustainably sourced, reflecting the Australian Museum's respect for the natural world and care for Country.
